IU’s Borns Jewish Studies Program (Borns JSP) is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs of its kind. A premier hub for the interdisciplinary study of Jews and Judaism, we foster leadership skills, civic responsibility, and academic achievement through the interdisciplinary study of Jews and Judaism.

Our degree programs

Our Bachelor of Arts degree provides an in-depth knowledge of Jewish studies, as well as proficiency in a language of relevance to Jewish studies. We offer a Jewish Studies minor and certificate, as well as minors in Hebrew and Yiddish. Graduate students can pursue a Master of Arts in Jewish Studies or Ph.D. minors in Jewish Studies or Yiddish.

Pursue what interests you

Our undergraduate students can choose from over 40 courses each year that explore a breadth of topics including music, language, literature, history, politics, gender, and more. You can also focus your studies with our Jewish Sacred Music Curriculum and Modern Hebrew programs. Graduate students have the opportunity to learn from a variety of disciplines and to choose their own disciplinary focus.

PROPOSAL DEADLINE: 8th Junior Scholars Conference in Jewish History in Berlin

We invite proposals for papers to be presented at the Eighth Junior Scholars Conference in Jewish History to take place at the Indiana University Europe Gateway in Berlin, May 2025 on the theme of “The Place of the Holocaust in German-Jewish History and Memory.” We seek proposals specifically from postdoctoral scholars, recent PhDs as well as those in the final stages of their dissertations
