The Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University is pleased to provide conference funding on a competitive basis to help graduate students who specialize in Jewish Studies present their research at major association meetings and conferences. Note: We follow university guidelines on travel.

Application procedure

Applications may be submitted through the IU Scholarships portal to the following opportunity IUB-Gurin Family Fund Conference Travel Award.

Submit a conference program or letter of invitation; a budget; and cover letter indicating the significance of the conference to your course of study, dates of travel, and method of travel; please include the name of the faculty member who will write a letter of recommendation in support of your application (recommendation letters may be emailed to iujsp@iu.edu).  If you have applied for other funding for the conference, please include details. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and must be submitted at least six weeks prior to the conference.

Awards will be limited to a maximum of $1,000 for travel within North America and $1,500 for international travel, and typically no more than one award per year per student. The university requires that we post conference funding awards directly to a student’s Bursar account. Providing you don’t have any outstanding charges on your Bursar account, it’s their practice to forward any credit balance on the account directly to you (via check or direct deposit to your bank account, depending on how your account is set up). Priority will be given to Jewish Studies M.A. and doctoral minors.
