Borns Jewish Studies Program

This course surveys academic work that defines the Middle Eastern, by describing histories, identities, economies, gender regimes, secular/religious tensions, or other dynamics that are perceived as both common across Middle Eastern societies and substantially different from those in other societies. It uses Israel/Palestine, as a possible case of the larger concept  "Middle Eastern society", to provide a fresh angle on what does and doesn't hold the Middle East together.
