Course Description

The course is an introduction to Israeli politics and society and how the Israeli-Palestinian conflict shapes them. It covers the Israeli system of government, electoral institutions, and voter behavior, as well as key state institutions like the army, from a comparative perspective. Students will learn about the critical issues that characterize the Israeli political system including, gender, religion, ethnicity, and security. Throughout the course students will learn about major political trends in Israel like the right wing trajectory, the growing power of populism and more – this will give them insight into current events and what is driving outcomes within Israel.
