We offer multiple scholarships of up to $60,000 ($15,000/year for 4 years) for incoming first year students committed to pursuing a Jewish Studies major at IU. Additional 1-year scholarships are also awarded to students committed to pursue a major or certificate in Jewish Studies.
Selection criteria
Candidates must be admitted to the College of Arts & Sciences as a Jewish Studies major or certificate student. Scholarship applicants will be considered primarily based on outstanding academic achievement and promise. Extracurricular achievements will also be considered. Students must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or above (out of a 4.0 scale) or equivalent and a record of academic and extracurricular accomplishment. Students may bring a maximum of 29 credit hours to be considered a first-year student.
Note: Students who plan to major outside the College of Arts and Sciences–in Business, Education, Informatics, Public and Environmental Affairs, or Public Health–cannot complete the Jewish Studies major nor certificate and thus are ineligible for these scholarships for incoming first year students. Jewish Studies minors are not eligible for these scholarships for incoming first year students.
Deadline
IU Scholarship Applications open January 15 and close March 1
(Note: Students applying to IU before November 1 will be considered for IU selective scholarships).
IU Scholarships is a single portal for students to find funding University-wide. It will also optimize funding opportunities by matching you to recommended awards that you may not be aware that you’re eligible for.
To be considered for these funding opportunities, you need to be admitted to Indiana University as a Jewish Studies major or certificate student. Next, you need to complete the general application by going to ONE.IU and searching "IU Scholarships." This application consists of answering 7 required questions, electronically signing, and submitting. This application may be submitted at any time during the academic year. However, you will not be considered for awards in the system until it is submitted.
NOTE: one of the required questions is whether you have or will file a FAFSA for the coming year. Since some funding opportunities are given to students who demonstrate financial need, please consider filing the FAFSA to provide the greatest access to funding.
Once you’ve completed the general application, you will be sent emails about specific opportunities for which you are initially eligible but may need to provide additional materials. These opportunities will tell you exactly what is needed, including things like your CV and letters of recommendation.
